Kelinshek — ‘the young bride’ — is a traditional kúі whose title evokes a familiar figure of Kazakh life: the young woman newly come into her husband’s household, and all the tenderness and quiet drama that surrounds her. Without a single named composer, it belongs to the folk tradition, and its melody is graceful and songful, warm rather than virtuosic.

Rated ★★☆ at ♩=160, it sits comfortably at the intermediate level. The five sections lean on a lyrical main idea that returns in different guises, so much of the work is in bringing out the melody cleanly over the accompanying open strings. Practise at 0.75×, shaping the phrases so the tune sings rather than merely runs, and keep the accompaniment softer than the melody. Bring it to tempo only once the singing line stays clear at speed.
